Since 2012, Maya has taught and choreographed within the Theatre Arts Department at Castleton University. Her choreography has been featured in musicals and dramas including this past Spring's production of Catch Me If You Can and currently, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. In Spring 2019, due to her efforts to build the dance program, C.U. Now offers a Dance Minor. Maya teaches a wide variety of courses to students of all majors and years of study. She is also Director of Castleton Collaborative Arts, a group inspired to create original works of choreography and performance art which holds a performance every Spring.
After graduating from Fordham University/Alvin Ailey Dance and Theater School with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance, Maya danced professionally with Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, FreeSpaceDance, Earl Mosely, Nathan Trice, Vital Spark North and Arts Access of Matheny Medical and Education Center. As of Summer 2019, Maya is doggedly pursuing her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts with a concentration in Performance Creation at Goddard College in Vermont . One of her areas of study includes developing ways to facilitate choreography with dancers and non-dancers in order to bring authentic voices and stories through movement to the public. She loves spending time on the family farm with her husband Mike and three giggly daughters.
