Good afternoon, Castleton Faculty, Staff, and Students:
The rapid spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Europe and Asia, as well as reports of isolated cases in the United States, has caused understandable concern within our campus community. We are working diligently on being prepared in the event the virus makes its way to our surrounding area.
I want to assure you that we have not had any reported cases of Coronavirus on our campus - or in Vermont. However, we are taking the matter seriously as a precaution and planning accordingly.
Our Emergency Management Team, led by Dean of Students Dennis Proulx, continues to work on contingencies for academic courses, housing and dining, facilities, and operations. One thing all of us can do to help reduce illnesses of all kinds is to use best practices to stop the spread of germs.
In the event COVID-19 has an impact on our campus operations, our learning management system, Canvas, will become an essential tool in continuing to deliver coursework throughout any possible disruption. It is a good time for all of us to become familiar with this system to help ensure the continuity of our courses.
We are taking proactive steps to be as prepared as possible in ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. We will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 as it evolves, plan accordingly, and keep you updated. Please look out for further updates on COVID-19 from Dean Proulx as the situation continues to develop. Your safety is always our highest priority.
Respectfully,
Dr. Karen M. Scolforo
President
