Several Castleton staff and alumnae were celebrated on March 24 at Evolve Rutland’s Rise Up Rutland Women’s History Month event. The annual event highlights the contributions of women leaders in the Rutland community.
Castleton’s Director of Development and Alumni Affairs Carrie Savage was honored with the Next Gen award, which recognizes the next generation of women leaders in their industry. Savage has worked at Castleton since 2019, initially holding the role of alumni relations coordinator before transitioning to her current role in 2021. In addition to her work at Castleton, she serves on the Rutland City Board of Aldermen and owns a successful blacksmithing company with her husband, Jesse.
Nicole Moran ’04 was also named the recipient of a Next Gen Award. Moran earned an associate degree in Nursing and a bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences from Castleton. She currently serves as chief clinical operations officer at VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region.
She is board chair for Girls on the Run Vermont and has served as a clinical preceptor for Castleton’s Nursing department.
Stefanie Schaffer ’20 was recognized with a Wall of Fame award. Schaffer was one of nine people injured when a tour boat she was on exploded, resulting in a spinal injury, brain injury, and the amputation of both of her legs. She has become a symbol of strength in the Rutland community, speaking out about the importance of blood donations and writing a book about her experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree in health promotion from Castleton.
