The Champlain Philharmonic will present its spring concert series Flourish, in collaboration with the Castleton University Chorale on Saturday, March 30 in Middlebury before coming to Castleton University's Casella Theater on Sunday, March 31. The concert begins at 4 p.m. and is open to the public.
Under the direction of Matthew LaRocca, music director for the Champlain Philharmonic, and Dr. Sherrill Blodget, director of the Castleton University Chorale, the 40-member orchestra will perform Dvorák’s Carnival Overture, Op. 92, and the 50- member chorus will join the orchestra to perform Fauré’s Pavane, Op. 50, and Dvorák’s Te Deum, Op 103, with soloists Helen Lyons and Neil Wacek.
The program will also include Beethoven’s Fantasia in C Minor for both chorus and orchestra, featuring Dr. Charles Madsen on piano. In addition to teaching a variety of courses in music history and theory, Madsen provides accompaniment for the music department and coaches student performers.
The Champlain Philharmonic is celebrating its 15th performance season as a community orchestra that regularly performs in Vermont's Addison and Rutland counties.
