Every March, we honor women's contributions to American history during Women's History Month. The theme of this year's Women's History Month is "Valiant Women of the Vote." The theme celebrates "the brave women who fought to win suffrage rights for women, and for the women who continue to fight for the voting rights of others."
2020 marks the 100-year anniversary of women's right to vote in America. The 19th amendment, which was passed by Congress on June 4, 1919, and ratified on August 18, 1920, guaranteed all American women the right to vote.
At Castleton, we welcome students from all corners of the globe. In countries where many of our female international students come from, suffrage rights came much later. The Women's History Month Committee felt it was important to highlight that while we have come a long way, there is still work to do around the world to ensure that women have a voice in political matters.
