The Castleton women’s lacrosse team's annual One Love game is Wednesday, April 17, when the Spartans host Keene State at 7 p.m. at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The One Love Foundation is an organization whose mission is to end relationship violence by educating young people about healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviors and empowering them to be leaders driving change in their communities. The foundation was created in 2010 to honor the memory of Yeardley Reynolds Love, a senior lacrosse player at University of Virginia who was killed by her ex-boyfriend three weeks before graduation.
The first One Love game was organized in 2015 by former head coach Hannah Corkery. The game is also dedicated to Victoria McManus, the sister of Corkery’s friend and former assistant coach Caroline McManus, who was the victim of relationship violence at the age of 26. Friends of Victoria was formed in 2014 as a way to honor McManus’ life.
Donations for One Love will be accepted during the game and the team, led by head coach Allyson Baribault, will be selling wrist bands and stickers for $2. All proceeds will go directly to the organization and fans are encouraged to wear blue (to support One Love) and green (to support Friends of Victoria) to the game.
