Ice cores drilled from the Greenland and Antarctic Ice Sheets and temperate glaciers provide evidence of past climate that allow us to view the present in the context of times before human influence on the planet. Ice cores also provide evidence of the impact of economics and policy on the environment since the start of industrialization; they teach an important lesson - that people make a difference. A look around reveals that prospects for mitigation may be helped by economics, in this time of opportunity!
