National TRIO Day is February 28. In Castleton's celebration, hear from two TRIO/Gear Up alumni: Tabitha-Ann J. Moore and David M. Stebbins. Each of our unique speakers will discuss their journey to and through college, their career paths, and their passions. A Q&A will follow their talks.
Tabitha is a 6th generation Vermonter, mother, daughter, and activist. She is a Training Coordinator at the University of Vermont, is founding President of the Rutland Area Branch of the NAACP, and former Vermont Director of the NAACP. She also owns a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Consulting business and travels across the U.S. working with agencies and organizations on structural equity. She is a member of the Vermont State Police's Fair and Impartial Policing Committee and a member of the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council's Fair and Impartial Training Committee. She received her individualized Bachelor of Arts degree from Wells College in The Psychology of Latin America in the Context of Its Language and Culture, and her Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Syracuse University. She also holds an advanced certificate in Diversity, Social Justice and Inclusion from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and School Counselor in the State of Vermont. She is in the process of earning her Ph.D. in the field of Transformative Social Change. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking with her family and making chocolates.
David is a senior policy analyst working on intelligence policy, nation-state, and non-state actor issues for the U.S. government. Stebbins has experience engaging with leadership across the Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community. He has regional expertise in the Levant and Sahel regions, working proficiency in Arabic, and substantive historical and current knowledge of global conflict. Stebbins is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in Conflict Resolution at George Mason University's Carter School. He holds an M.A. in International Affairs from Columbia University (SIPA) where he concentrated on International Security Policy and specialized in International Conflict Resolution. He earned his B.A. in Social Science from Castleton State College in 2007. Prior to joining RAND, Stebbins worked for the NYPD Counterterrorism Bureau’s Terrorist Threat Analysis Group (TTAG) and performed extensive policy work as a National Security Legislative Staff Member for the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee. Stebbins also gained military experience through the Vermont Army National Guard, where he served as an Infantry Combat Medic attached to the 2/172nd M1A2 Abrams Armor Division.
