Castleton University Bank Gallery
Early this year, Mayor Louras of Rutland reached out to the Castleton University Art Galleries with the idea of installing an exhibition of work created by Syrian artists in an attempt to serve as both a welcoming gesture for any Syrians who might be coming to Rutland as well as to help the residents of Rutland better understand the Syrian people and culture. The resulting exhibition, “The Syrian Experience as Art” represents the work of twelve Syrian artists seeking to express their individual and varied responses to the devastation of their country.
The participating Syrian artists are: Amr Faded, Bassam Alemam, Dani Hasrouni, Humam Alsalim & Rami Bakhos, Issa Touma, Julie Nakazi, Khaled Youssef, Khaked Akil, Omar Shammah, Ayham Jabr, Tania Al Kayyali.
On Sunday, September 18 at 2:00pm, one of the artists, Khaled Youssef, will be participating in a Skype presentation at the CU Bank Gallery (formerly the Castleton Downtown Gallery Annex) to discuss his work and facilitate a Q&A session. This event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.
