Castleton University will host a commemorative ceremony in honor of Veteran’s Day on Friday, November 11 at 11 a.m. at the Memorial Flag Pole in front of Woodruff Hall.
The University will commemorate Veteran’s Day with the presentation of colors at the flagpole, followed by remarks by guest speaker Castleton Professor of English Burnham Holmes.
Burnham Holmes has worked as an editor, teacher, and writer. He was an editor in publishing in New York City and has taught at the School of Visual Arts, Green Mountain College and Castleton University. He has written seventeen books, four plays, and hundreds of poems.
Burnham served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967. After attending Air Defense School at Fort Bliss, Texas, he was a launching platoon leader at a Nike Hercules missile site near Minneapolis, Minnesota, and the intelligence officer (S-2) for a Hawk missile battalion at Camp Page in Chunchon, Korea.
All veterans are invited to enjoy a free lunch in Huden Dining Hall following the ceremony.
