In honor of White Cane Safety Awareness Day, October 15, 2018, the Vermont Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Vermont Association for the Blind & Visually Impaired will sponsor a panel discussion, “Dispelling Myths About Blindness,” followed by an experiential walk.
The panel, moderated by and composed of individuals who are blind, will focus on employment, recreation, parenting, and education, followed by a question and answer period with light refreshments.
The white cane is a symbol of strength and independence for blind and visually impaired people. White Cane Safety Awareness Day is a national day first recognized and proclaimed in 1964 by President Lyndon B Johnson.
