 Castleton Public Safety:
"Providing services that enhance the overall safety at Castleton"
Tips on Being Safe and Risk Reduction
Department Mission:
The Department of Public Safety, with community service as our foundation and by focusing on the diverse needs of the campus community, will strive to provide services that enhance the overall safety at Castleton State College.
Hours of Operation:
Public Safety officers are on duty 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM-4:00PM. Parking permits may be obtained during office hours, or online. Faculty/staff and student IDs may be obtained Monday through Friday, 1:00PM- 3:00PM.
Services Provided:
If you are locked out of your vehicle, an officer may choose to attempt an unlock of your vehicle. The vehicle owner must sign a waiver stating Public Safety will not be held responsible for any damage that may result from the attempt. Public Safety reserves the right to refuse to attempt an unlock of a vehicle.
Escorts are available 24 hours a day. You may call ext. 1215 to request an escort from, and to, anywhere on campus.
If you need your vehicle jump-started, Public Safety provides a jumper pack. However, officers are unable to jump start your vehicle. You will need to leave your Castleton ID with Public Safety when borrowing the jumper pack.
If you are locked out of your dorm or room, you should first try to contact a member of Residence Life. Public Safety reserves the right to refuse to unlock a door, and may charge a $25 fine in certain instances (i.e. habitual requests).
Sex Offenders:
Information regarding sex offenders in Vermont can be obtained by visiting the State of Vermont's website.
Handbook:
All students receive the Student Handbook. All members of the community are expected to abide by the policies and regulations contained therein. Some of the information contained in the Public Safety website pages regarding policies and regulations has been taken from the Student Handbook. All members of the community are expected to be aware of the material in the Handbook. Copies of the Handbook are available in the Student Life Office, located in the Campus Center. Copies are also available online.
