This course is designed to support participants to integrate career exploration and post-high school exploration into their curriculum AND to expand their knowledge and skills related to post-high school exploration.
Students are often deciding as early as 6th grade what they will do after they graduate from high school. As schools and educators work to support the educational journey of the “whole child”, we must include direct instruction and support of ALL students in making informed choices about their paths after high school. Educators are not counselors or work-based learning professionals but they are important links to students and their futures.
Participants in this course will access and reflect on a variety of resources to build their capacity to support all students in graduating high school with a plan. This includes contemporary research, presentations and readings from industry professionals, a rubric and interviews with students or colleagues.
Participants will design and execute a project to integrate one career exploration or post-high school planning experience into their curricula. They will be coached by the instructor in the development and implementation of the project.
The course will culminate with each participant presenting an overview of their project, the data that supports the implementation of their project and a reflection of how the project was implemented and/or potential next steps.
