Castleton students, faculty, and staff will receive the gift of speedier Internet this holiday season, as Castleton undergoes a network upgrade early Friday morning.
Doubling the current bandwidth, the upgrade will increase the Internet speed from 100 mb/s to 200 mb/s, improving the overall campus Internet experience.
Users can expect to see increased download and Internet speeds on both the student and academic sides of campus, allowing for more optimum file and video access.
“This upgrade won’t solve all of our Internet performance problems, but it will help out a lot in the short term,” said Chief Technology Officer Gayle Malinowski.
Over the summer months Castleton plans to continue moving forward with additional network upgrades. The Internet bandwidth will be further increased to 1 gb/s, ten times greater than the current capacity, planned to be in place by the Fall 2014 Semester.
