Arts Reach 2008-09
Established in 2003, the mission of Arts Reach is to offer school children experience and education through live performances of various arts genre. Arts Reach is designed to provide entertaining performances with cultural and racial diversity. This project is unique because it is run in collaboration with the college's award winning academic course, Soundings, as well as collaborating with Castleton students in researching and writing some of the curriculum guides provided to teachers.
There is no admission charge, but reservations must be made in advance by calling Mariko Hancock at 468-1227.
Arts Reach performances are not open to the general public unless noted.

The show weaves in diverse themes inspired by Rachel Carson, pioneer of the modern environmental movement, throughout the production’s storyline creating an exhilarating and compelling journey.

Tradition, Tragedy and Hope: A brief survey of brass band music

 The performances include storytelling and music from the New Orleans tradition explaining the root of the culture and its connections to West Africa. Church and blues music reflecting songs familiar to the southern experience, are performed interspersed with stories about the history of New Orleans and Katrina’s impact on the lives of her victims.

 This dynamic program highlights the rhythms and emotions of Flamenco and essence of the different culture that influenced Flamenco: Andalusian, Gypsy, North African, Arabic and Judaic. The program consists of a series of solos, duets and company members.
