Dr. Roy M. Vestrich held the post of Professor of Communication and Theater Arts full time from 1988-2014 and now teaches as a member of the part-time faculty. In 1989, Professor Vestrich founded the Film Studies Program (minor) and served as program coordinator till 2014. During his tenure, he served in various posts including stints as chair of both Communication and Theater Arts, president of the Faculty Federation, and faculty coordinator of London Semester program. A painter, photographer, poet and playwright, his works have been exhibited and performed at local and regional venues, including the Christine Price Gallery and Castleton University Black Box. In the 1990s, he was selected by Warner Bros. as a member of their prestigious Television Comedy Writers Workshops. In 1999, his play "Green Mountain Bucks," was staged at the Edward Albee/ Last Frontier Theatre Festival in Valdez, Alaska. He has presented research on art, film, and dance at numerous national and international conferences. In the fall of 2014 he published two books of poetry, "River People" and "The Lost Sonnets." An avid traveler, adventurer and sailor, his writing has also appeared in newspapers and magazines, including a feature on his nearly two-thousand mile passage in a twenty foot sailboat that appeared in "Good Old Boat" in fall 2011.
