Castleton University defines a credit hour as:
(1) One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out of class student work each week for approximately fifteen weeks, or the equivalent, for one semester hour of credit.
(2) Academic work carrying course credit that does not fit into the in-class, out-of-class structure as described above (e,g, laboratory sections, internships, studio sections, practica, intensive field courses, etc.) must meet the equivalent per credit work commitment as described in #1 above.
