Castleton will participate in the nationwide celebration of Women’s History Month during the month of March, by featuring an array of on-campus activities, lectures, and presentations throughout.
Since 1988 Castleton has proudly highlighted the influence of women through the celebration of Women’s History Month. This year, a variety of events from guest speakers and poster presentations to an equity bake sale will capture the theme “Weaving the Stories of Women’s Lives.”
Kicking off the celebrations will be an interactive presentation by local members of the Rutland Young Professionals organization, highlighting community involvement, on Monday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in Herrick Auditorium.
Every Wednesday in the Alumni Room of Huden Dining Hall, the highly anticipated “Every Woman Has a Story” will take place beginning at 12 p.m. Over the course of four weeks, a mix of seven Castleton women will share their personal stories in a 15-20 minute presentation. A discounted meal rate will be available for attendees and all are encouraged to come hear the unique tales of Castleton women.
“What is interesting about Every Woman Has A Story are the different approaches individuals take to their stories,” said Assistant Dean of Campus Life Victoria Angis. “Each one is different and each one is moving in its own way.”
Highlighting the average gendered wage gap in the workplace, the annual Equity Bake Sale will be held on Tuesday, March 10 in the Campus Center Solarium.
Additionally, guest speakers Kiki McShane, Managing Director of FarVision, and Whitney Lamy, Founder of Castleton Crackers, will give a presentation on entrepreneurship and the importance of a balanced work ethic on Tuesday, March 24 at 3:30 p.m. in the Campus Center 1787 Room, and a poster presentation on Women in U.S. History will be held on Thursday, March 26 at 12:30 p.m. in the Campus Center Informal Lounge.
Various other events will be featured throughout the remainder of the month, as well as the Vermont Women in Higher Education Annual Conference, an all-day event held at the Killington Grand Hotel on Friday, March 27.
