Students are often deciding as early as 6th grade what they will do after they graduate from high school. As schools and educators work to support the educational journey of the “whole child”, we must include direct instruction and support of ALL students in making informed choices about their paths after high school. This course is designed to give educators the knowledge and tools to more equitably support career exploration and post-high school planning.
The course will begin by focusing on data related to post-high school planning in Vermont. Participants will have access to data for the state as well as the ability to focus on data for their particular school. From there, we will explore resources to help educators better support students in planning for their future. This includes consideration of various student-centered “lenses”. The course will culminate with each participant designing, implementing and reflecting on an inquiry project related to improving student and family access to career exploration or post-high school planning.
Audience: Vermont educators for grades 6-12 (classroom teachers, work-based learning professionals, counselors, special educators, educational assistants, principals, curriculum coordinators.
