Dr. Scott Roper with Keighan Chapman served as planners and primary instructors at “Get ConnectED! ArcGIS Online for Educators,” a week-long 40-hour institute (with optional 3-credit graduate option) for 12 preK-12 and university educators held at Castleton University, July 6-10, 2015.
Dr. Roper's BioAt the Society for Cinema and Media Studies annual conference, Dr. Talbott participated in a workshop on Video Essays in Transnational Cinema Studies. This workshop brought together video essay practitioners "to explore the extent to which audiovisual scholarship can help us to examine cultural and stylistic dialogues within and between national cinemas." His presentation on Transnational Paratexts and the Audiovisual Essay explored the connections between stylistic hybridity and the international funding of Lucrecia Martel’s La Ciénaga. Other workshop participants included Nicolas Poppe (Middlebury College), Austin Fisher (Bournemouth University), Catherine Grant (University of Sussex), and Jeffrey Middents (American University), and was chaired by Tracy Cox-Stanton (Savannah College of Art and Design).
Dr. Talbott's BioDr. Scott Roper was appointed by the Lyndeborough (NH) Board of Selectmen to a two-year term on a town committee to determine space needs of the Police and Fire Departments as well as possible locations for Police and Fire Stations. He is currently serving as committee chair.
Dr. Roper's BioDr. Andrew Vermilyea was awarded a $10,000 research grant award from Vermont EPSCoR for his work on the 'Effects of photochemical degradation of DOM on carbon nutrient concentration and bioavailability in the Lake Champlain Basin.' This collaborative work with the University of Vermont and Castleton undergraduate students will serve to better understand the role of sunlight on carbon nutrients being exported to the lake as a function of land use choices.
Dr. Vermilyea's BioDr. Scott Roper was awarded a $5,000 grant from Esri, a California-based software company, to conduct a one-week summer institute for preK-12 teachers in ArcGIS Online in July 2015.
Dr. Roper's BioDr. Terry Bergen supervised the research of his student Molly Ramsden that was accepted for publication in the Spring of 2015 in the peer reviewed APA publication, Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research. The title of Molly's paper was "Think About It: Cognitive Load and the Trolley Scenario as an Analogue for Gun Violence". This research was Molly's honors project.
AbstractDr. Andrew Vermilyea was invited to present his work on how a changing climate was impacting the landscapes and aquatic ecosystems of coastal Alaska for the Science Pub series. His talk was titled, 'Stranded Polar Bears? That's the Least of it!' and was well attended at the Fair Haven Inn.
Dr. Vermilyea's BioDr. Scott Roper is currently serving a 3-year term as an elected member of the Lyndeborough (NH) Budget Committee, 2013-2016.
