Castleton University works collaboratively across many offices and departments to support an equitable, vibrant, and academically challenging environment. Through values including understanding, mutual consideration, and respect, we are working to build a culture of diversity and acceptance, allowing students to reach their full potential as active members of our community.
At Castleton, we proudly champion the unique experiences of every student, faculty, and staff member. We are committed to sustaining an inclusive environment that acknowledges a multitude of cultures, understands how our backgrounds influence our beliefs, actions, and interactions with one another, and values our differences for how they challenge our thinking and enrich the community.
Castleton’s faculty and staff have a wealth of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including international and new American students, low-income and first-generation students, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities, and many others. Student organizations, like the Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, offer organized activities on campus and no matter your religion, the greater Rutland Region is filled with places to worship.
We believe that students who understand the importance of inclusiveness will be better prepared to make a difference in our community and in the world.
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee is a collaboration of students, faculty, and staff representing departments and interests across the University. Areas represented include athletics, academics, admissions, institutional research, student life, advancement, and others. Students – including representatives from the Student Government Association, Castleton's NAACP chapter, Spectrum Pride, and the International Club – are integral members of the Castleton community and the committee.
CU/See Me is Castleton's diversity programming committee. Its name is a reflection of our values and recognizing everyone’s unique story and identity. CU/See Me works closely with the Campus Activities Board and Soundings to ensure a diverse schedule of activities throughout the year.
